As we get older, there are some changes that our bodies go through which make it difficult for us to remain young looking. Getting wrinkles under eyes makes us all look old and no one looks forward to these wrinkles. The funny thing is that there are a number of factors that can contribute to acquiring under eye wrinkles. I’m going to do my best to help you better understand what causes eye wrinkles, how to prevent from getting them and the solution to getting rid of wrinkles if you happen to acquire them.
What Causes Wrinkles Under Eyes?
If you are trying to identify one main cause of getting wrinkles under your eyes, then you’re going to find yourself a bit disappointed. If it were only that easy then there would be no need for me to even write this article. What I can confidently say is that these specific types of wrinkles are caused by a number of different factors. One of the most well-known causes of getting wrinkles under your eyes is getting too much exposure to sunlight. This is a term that many individuals within the skin care industry refer to as photoaging.
What Is Photoaging?
If you are not familiar with what photoaging is then you soon will be. Photoaging is often a term used to reference the damage that has been done to your skin, which may have been exposed to far too much UV radiation over the period of one’s entire life. As we age, the changes in our skin are often accelerated the more we are exposed to the sun. If you want to prevent under eye wrinkles from forming then you must diminish or reduce the photoaging process. What happens is, the more exposure to ultraviolet radiation, the more active the free radicals are in your body. If you are young, then you likely have plenty of antioxidants to fight off the nasty free radicals that damage your skin. These free radicals become neutralized and they don’t do any damage.
However, as you age, and as your UV exposure increases, the free radicals start to increase in your body which ultimately leads to more damage. After hitting the ripe age of 40 or older, the antioxidants that used to be present are far less present today. This increases the chances of acquiring wrinkles under your eyes. What you will begin to notice is that the pigmentation of your skin is beginning to appear spotty or uneven. If you smoke cigarettes then you’ve just brought about another reason for free radicals to exist in your system. Smoking cigarettes causes extremely wrinkled skin.
Preventing Wrinkles From Forming Under Eyes
If you’re looking to completely prevent wrinkle under your eyes from taking shape then I’ve got some bad new for you. Preventing them from completely forming may in fact be impossible. There are factors that contribute to these wrinkles such as genetics which you have no control over. However, there are a number of different actions that you can do to attempt to reduce the risk of acquiring these awful looking lines as you age.
For starter, you’ve got to protect your skin from the sun at all times. Doing so can reduce the risk of getting cancer and wrinkles. Sunscreen simply isn’t enough. You must take extra measures such as wearing a hat and sunglasses which further block UV rays. Make sure the sunglasses that you’re wearing are large enough to cover the corners of your eyes. Sunglasses protect your eyes and can keep you from getting wrinkles around your eyes.
Speaking of eyes, you’ll want to do what you can to keep from squinting. That said, you need to make sure your eye prescriptions are current and that you’re not squinting at all unless absolutely necessary.
Believe it or not, the solution to getting rid of wrinkles under eyes is rather simple. All you have to do is take some action. What does that mean? Well, for starters, I would begin eating salmon to increase my omega-3 intake. Why? Simply because it contains protein which helps build new skin cells that can help further firm your under eye area.
Omega-3 and other fish oils can even increase the firmness of your skin by as much as 10%. Doing so can often leads to stretching out your wrinkles.
Another tactic would be to begin reducing the amount of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) that you’re body contains. A good nutrient that assists in the reduction process is known as carnosine. You will find carnosine in a lot of eye serums and creams as a common ingredient. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the best way to get rid of wrinkles is to be extremely proactive at taking preventative measures to not acquire them in the first place. Wrinkles suck and getting old is no far. Prolong the process as much as possible and you’ll have a better life as an added benefit for your efforts, not to mention no wrinkles under eyes.
Getting old sucks, man.
