Tips To Help You Better Control Your Psoriasis

These are simple yet effective tips that you can take action on almost immediately if you’re looking to kick the inflammation and itching habit pronto. While you don’t have to do all of these things, I’d like to suggest that you try to do so for best results.

Remember, when it comes to caring for your skin, consistency is key and nothing else matters.

Stop Scratching

I know, it sounds almost impossible but you need to stop scratching your skin. Trust me, I totally understand that psoriasis itches a ton. Sometimes the itching can seem like a burning feeling and even a biting type of sensation. It’s not pleasant at all but when you rub your skin and scratch it excessively, it causes your skin to get worse. I know what you’re thinking right now, “If I’m unable to itch your rash, then what do I do?” Well, the answer is you first apply an over the counter anti itch cream to help reduce the irritation and itching. Find something that contains hydrocortisone or calamine in it.

You can also try the cold temperature method which is pretty easy and inexpensive. Just take a cold shower and apply some ice packs to your psoriasis. Another trick is to keep calamine lotions in the refrigerator to keep them cold. Then when you apply them you get that nice cool sensation along with the delivery of the medicine.

Use Emollients

If you want to treat your psoriasis to control it and keep it contained, then you need to use lotions daily, sometimes multiple times a day. Using an OTC emollient will do wonder for your skin. It can even prevent psoriasis breakouts from occurring. My suggestion would be to check out one of the lotions that CeraVe, Cetaphil, or Neutrogena manufactures.

Avoid Hot Water

If you’re still taking hot showers and overly heated baths, then you need to stop immediately. Assuming that you need the water hot, try to keep it lukewarm only. The hot water is horrible for healthy skin,┬álet alone skin that’s dealing with psoriasis issues. We’ve been stating how bad hot water is for your skin for a long time now. It shouldn’t even be a question if you’re a regular reader.

Use Easy Cleansers

You’ll want to avoid any really harsh cleansers if you have inflammation and itchy from this condition. Try to find a mild cleanser that agrees with your skin. Avoid all that contain perfumes and harsh ingredients. Using anything extreme will definitely do more harm than good. It can actually irritate the skin, making it drier and more inflamed than ever before.

Take Your Medication

If you’ve been prescribed something to help treat your psoriasis, then you’ll want to take it or use it daily. Do not skip days and do not adhere to your own schedule. There’s a reason why a dermatologist prescribes medicine to patients, so don’t slack or try to play doctor. Most likely they prescribed the application of some topical creams and ointments. Those of which are helpful in reducing inflammation, itching, dryness and more.

Well, those are some simple tips that I’ve got for you if you’re dealing with psoriasis issues. Stay on track and be consistent with your treatments and you should see some relief in the near future. Best of luck and feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns at all.
