The lack of skin care advice for guys out there needed to be addressed and I figured who better to do that today other than me. Regular guys that aren’t models or famous folks dodging the Paparazzi need to know how to care for their skin. What you’ll soon find out is that is not all that time consuming or difficult. I’m only going to share what you need to know in this post and nothing more.
What Guys Need To Know About Skin Care
Know Your Skin Type
One of the most important things you need to know about caring for your skin is what type of skin you have. Sounds difficult right – wrong! According to Davd E. Bank, M.D., there’s an easy test that can do. It’s called the tissue test. All you have to do is wash your face with a mild cleanser, pat you face dry and pat your face dry. Five minutes later, put a facial tissue up to your face for a couple of minutes.
If the tissue is completely dry, chances are that you have dry or sensitive skin and if it’s oily, well, you guessed it. If the tissue is a 50/50 or some combination of that then you’re probably a combination of dry and oily. Once you’ve determined that, you should choose a cleanser accordingly.
Don’t Use Your Girlfriend’s
You must understand that there’s a difference between men’s and women’s skin. That said, there are different products for each gender and it’s not just the packaging that changes with each. According to Elizabeth Tanzi, M.D., “Men have a tendency to have more oil glands in their skin,” so one would think that a men’s product line would contain ingredients to fight that.
Commit For Success
You must put forth best efforts to try and wash your face both morning and night. Men tend to have oily skin in comparison to women, so it’s important to keep your face clean and doing it twice a day is a must. If that starts to feel too harsh on your skin, you can always find a gentler product to use and just use it more frequently. You need to incorporate a solid cleanser with antibacterial ingredients, especially if you workout.
Men need to exfoliate just like women do. According to a recently published article, you should be exfoliating two to three times per week. This injunction with shaving is a surefire way clear your skin of skin cells that could be dead or damaged.
Aftershave or Beard Oil
If you’re a freshly shaved guy then you should be incorporating an aftershave that contains vitamin C. This is the most powerful vitamin when it comes to caring for your skin. It does wonders. Just be sure to add it to your regimen. Now, if you’re have a beard, you’re not in the clear here. You should be using a beard oil in order to hydrate your beard.
Lastly, you should be wearing sunscreen every single day. Find a moisturizer with SPF in it and apply it daily in the morning. It’s much easier to prevent versus repair. Skin cancer is no fun and the sun isn’t all that great for your skin. Lastly, I have to recommend that you start using an eye cream as well. I personally use an under eye cream on a daily basis.
That about sums up the essentials routine for guys. If you’re not doing any of these things then you’re not taking as good care of yourself as you should be.
