Skin Care Terminology – Acronyms To Understand

The terms and acronyms I’m about to share with you are in no particular order at all. Many of these terms are ones that are only used in serious skin care groups or by advocates that eat, sleep, and breathe skin care. Nevertheless, knowledge is power and having a better understanding of what’s going on and what people are discussing can help you make better-informed decisions, especially when it comes to taking care of your skin and body.

Okay, so here goes nothing! This is what you need to know if you don’t want to end up scratching your head in confusion while scrolling though beauty Facebook groups and Instagram posts.

#1: KP

Ever heard the word “chicken skin” used in any skin care groups? It’s a common skin issue that people have and this happens when your skin produces excess keratin. Rough patches and bumps seem to form and hair follicles eventually get blocked. The acronym stands for keratosis pilaris and it’s more common than you think. Strange, yes. But also very common.

#2 ACV

We’re mega fans of this one as it helps with just about everything health and beauty related. I’m talking about apple cider vinegar. Celebs, gym trainers, fitness coaches, and Instagram models all swear by the use of this. Some people consume it, while others simply use it as a toner or a cleanser. Be careful, it’s strong but ACV works like a charm.

#3 EO

We’ve also grown to love this one since we’re so into taking a natural and organic approach to skin care. EO stands for essential oils and lavender, as well as lemon, are both fan favorites of many. If you’re hanging around any skin care forums or FB groups and they drop the EO on you, now you know what they’re referring to.

#4 BP

The good old benzoyl peroxide is perhaps one of the best antibacterial agents on the market today. This explains why so many products contain this ingredient. When you see BP, now you know what it means. It’s a pimple fighting ingredient that works like a charm.

#5 HA

This stands for hyaluronic acid and it’s often mentioned when discussing skin hydration issues and moisturizing. It’s stronger than you could even imagine and does a lot for your skin, especially when it comes to maintaining that ever so youthful look that you desire.

This one is applicable to other industries, but it simply means, your mileage may vary. When you hear someone say that, then it’s safe to say that they’re referring to a product and the way that it impacts your skin over time. They also may mean that results may vary depending on the person.

There are far more skin care acronyms being used today, but this is definitely the bulk of them. See knowledge is power and now you can join in on the fun!
