Pick Your Poison…Seriously, You May Have Already

Some people don’t even realize that they’re subjecting themselves to poison exposure every single day. Sure, the title of the article sounds a bit harsh, but it’s true. Many companies out there take advantage of consumers. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration helps fight these issues every single day.

However, many of them are not banned and they aren’t necessarily illegal either. Instead, you’ll find that most of them are buried in the products that you use daily. So, here’s what I’ve done for you. I’ve put together a list of chemicals and toxins that you’ll want to try and avoid. Sure, sometimes you’ll miss them and use a product with them in it unintentionally.

Don’t panic. You’ll survive but pay more attention to what you’re ingesting (topically and internally). Here is a list of ingredients that you can start trying to avoid. This should help you get things started.

Poison, Chemicals, and Toxins You’ll Want To Avoid

Like I said, there are so many that it’s often hard to keep track of them all. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t put in a little effort though. Here’s a list of ingredients that you should look out for and stay away from for the most part.

The first chemical that I want to mention are parabens, which are often added to skin and beauty products as well as cosmetics such as makeup etc. Using products that contain parabens can cause growth issues, reproduction issues, development, and other possible endocrine issues. Best bet is to stay away from them when possible.

Next up, bleaching products (hair not intimate area bleaching). The common ingredient in these products is called resorcinol. It’s been found to be toxic and can cause issues with hormones and your immune system. Don’t worry, if you’re going to the beauty salon to get this done, then they’ll be limitations that the salons will have to abide by. However, doing this in the comfort of your home can be far more damaging due to no limitations.

While we all like to smell nice, sometimes fragrances aren’t the best thing for you, especially when it comes to skin care products. More often than not these products cause a condition known as contact dermatitis which can have a negative impact on your skin. Fragrances smell good but they aren’t good for your skin. In fact, they’ve been known to cause asthma issues as well.

Next on the toxic ingredient list is phthalates which are often found in creams and lotions. This ingredient has been linked to issues such as reproductive issues and hormonal issues. If you’re trying to get pregnant, then I advise you to not use products that contain this ingredient.

Are you wearing your sunscreen these days? Good, but does it contain oxybenzone? If so, then you might be doing more harm than good. This ingredient has been associated with melanoma. Strange, I know, but something to take into consideration next time you apply sunscreen. Here’s the thing, I’m not suggesting that you flat out stop using sunscreen. Just find one that doesn’t contain this ingredient and you’ll be far better off.

There are lots of other ingredients that you should be avoiding such as sodium laureth sulfate, Methylisothiazolinone, triclosan, petroleum, and more. However, I’d rather keep things short and actionable, so that you can focus on avoiding a few products at a time. Take this weekend to go through your products, read the labels and ditch those that contain these ingredients.
