Well, it seems like some of the consumers that use Old Spice deodorant are finding themselves in a stinky situation. Old Spice has been around forever and it’s considered to be a staple for some guys and gals.
The company is known for their commercials and social media posts. What once was looked at as being the most widely known deodorant on the market, is now being recognized for the damage the brand is causing users. All the hilarious ads in the world aren’t going to matter if you’re product causes consumers to break out in nasty red rashes.
Old Spice Deodorant Company Now Being Sued
After a number of consumers started posting their pictures of what various Old Spice products were doing to their skin, they decided to take some further action. Consumers are suing over the ugly burns and rashes that the deodorants are causing. In fact, the parent company, Proctor & Gamble are being sued for over $5 million in damages.
The list of complaints are extensive to say the least and they aren’t being quite about it. Hundreds of product users have been posting their complaints on a few popular social media sites and other complaint board style sites.
For example, here’s a picture that one consumer posted after using the Old Spice Pure Sport High Endurance. The picture he posted on Instagram may be a bit disturbing so I’d like to warn you of the graphic image.
This is only one of the many cases that have recently surfaced. Proctor & Gable have responded to the plaintiff in this case and they’ve made it a point to publically state their efforts to ensure product safety for all individuals that use their products.
A spokesperson from P&G had told USA today that all the products are safe to use and that the assumed burns are not chemical related. Instead, they are attributing the skin irritations to minor ingredients such as alcohol and fragrance.

It will be interesting to see where this ends up. The important thing to learn from all of this is that you immediately discontinue the use of any product that may be causing harm. Be sure to document your results of using the product and seek treatment from a professional. The other takeaway that I feel is really important is that you read the ingredients of every product that you are using or have purchased. You only have one body and you need to understand what you are putting on or into it.
