Are you the type that has to constantly battle dandruff issues? Well, if so, then you’ll most definitely want to read this review. I recently had someone reach out to me asking about quick fixes and cures for dandruff issues and I immediately came across the Neutrogena T Gel while doing my research. With close to 1,800 reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 rating, I couldn’t let this one slide – I had to write a review about the product. Given that I’ve covered some Neutrogena products in the past, I knew what to expect in terms of information to be found. If dandruff is a problem for you, then you’ll want to read this, no doubt about that.
My Review of the Neutrogena T Gel
Almost everyone has experienced dandruff issues some time in their lives and surely, you all know how unpleasant and sometimes embarrassing it can be. If you tell me you’ve never had to deal with it ever, then I know you’re lying. To counteract the serious peeling of the skin on your scalp, I’m sorry to say but, regular shampoos will not do the job, and people with dandruff need to turn to more problem-specific treatments like the Neutrogena T Gel shampoo.
Are their other options out there? Sure there are, but this one is quite interesting actually.
Unlike the typically covered skincare products which I write about here, this one is intended as a solution to managing dandruff. Below you will find a complete review of the product, how to use it, and whether or not it’s truly effective.
What Is Dandruff?
This is a pretty easy question to answer. Dandruff is the dead skin layer that sheds from the skin on the scalp, almost every person on the planet has had dandruff at some point in their lives. It’s extremely normal for the skin to shed its top layer and a fresh layer to replace this layer of skin cells.
When the growth of new skin begins to grow at a faster pace and the shedding of the old top layer happens quicker, flakes are the result. These flakes (dandruff) get caught between the hairs and this looks very unpleasant. A severe dandruff outbreak usually occurs in people with dry skin on their head, people who are prone to irritations and people that suffer from bad cases of psoriasis.
Enough about that though, time to talk product…
You’re probably wondering why on earth they call this T Gel, am I right? Well, the Neutrogena T Gel naming convention will be something you’re soon familiar with as I’m going to cover it shortly. The company produces many products as from this one. Things like skin care, body care, makeup, sunscreens and hair care products are all available for purchase. We’re not here to cover all those products though, just the T Gel today.
As previously stated, the Neutrogena T Gel offers immediate dandruff relief and a solution for those suffering from this condition. The results are readily visible after only one use.
No, I’m not B.S.-ing you here. That’s what the brand claims and I believe that to be true.
This is a dermatologically proven and recommended shampoo that manages the symptoms of dandruff. It’s gentle for those with hair issues and does not cause any itchiness to the scalp at all. Some of these types of scalp washes do cause problems but not this one.
There are actually four individual products that fall under the Neutrogena T Gel range: the T Gel Therapeutic Shampoo-Extra Strength, the T Gel Therapeutic Shampoo-Stubborn Itch, the T Gel Daily Control 2-in-1 Dandruff Shampoo Plus Conditioner and the T Sal Therapeutic Shampoo-Scalp Build-Up Control. All of these are anti-dandruff shampoos, but they do vary slightly in their formulas and the reason for which one would attempt to use the product. I guess they’ve got different products for hair types and different treatment issues.
How To Use Them
Using any of the Neutrogena T Gel shampoos is very simple, as with any other shampoo. Wet your hair, apply the prescribed amount to your hair, lather it into your hair, and leave it on for a few minutes so the active ingredients can work their magic. Rinse thoroughly yet gently to ensure that you remove all of the product from your hair.
Note: Do not let the Neutrogena T Gel shampoos sit too long, the active ingredients may become over-active and cause issues if not used in the proper manner. Longer treatment doesn’t mean better results.
The main active ingredient is coal tar. This may sound strange at first, but coal tar is actually a very common ingredient in treatments for those suffering from psoriasis and dandruff, both conditions related to dry skin, itching, and inflammation.
The Neutar (the stabilized coal tar extract used in the products helps by limiting or drastically reducing the overproduction of skin on the scalp, thus preventing overproduction of dandruff.
Another active ingredient is the Neutrogena T Gel shampoos is salicylic acid. This ingredient helps with clearing the flakes by breaking them down into very small particles which are easily washed away. It also helps with managing scalp skin cell buildup. Pretty disgusting but normal, I know.
Zinc Pyrithione is an antimicrobial ingredient that helps with removing harmful bacteria like yeast, which is a very common irritant.
Based on my research, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this is a solid product. Generally speaking, there are mostly positive reviews of the Neutrogena T Gel shampoos posted on the web. Seeing that the Neutrogena Facebook page has over five million likes, it comes as no surprise the quality of the products is there and the satisfied customer count is there as well.
The Neutrogena T Gel shampoos are readily available in most retail stores, drugstores, and beauty salons as well as their online shop. The price points are affordable for such good-quality products, so if you or someone you know is battling dandruff issues, then perhaps you should start here.
