I’ll admit, in my early 20s, I was pretty careless when it came to having a solid men’s skin care regimen. As much as my mother was on my case for keeping my skin clean and healthy looking, I hated doing so. If you saw the arsenal of skin care products that we had, you wouldn’t believe it. Spending most of my time living at my mother’s house with my sister, it’s no wonder why I quickly realized the importance of caring for my skin. Took a bit of time but eventually, it clicked. I then adapted quicker than ever and I’m glad I did.
The Younger Years: My Men’s Skin Care Story (Kinda)
I had friends that would make fun of me for using certain skin products. They would stay over and see the number of products that I had and it sent shock waves through some of their systems. It was the perks of living with two females and reaping the benefits. I took full advantage to utilize each and every product that I could, besides the makeup and BB cream. As a result, I had pretty decent looking skin.
As I grew older, I realized that I needed products that were meant for men. Using the same skin products that my sister or mother used on a regular basis no longer cut it for me. In addition to that, the beard oil that I used to try and keep my beard smooth just wasn’t enough.
I decided to take some serious action and get my act together once and for all. That meant putting together some basic steps for a morning and evening routine. That process involved the use of a face wash for men, moisturizing cream, under eye serum, and sunscreen.
It wasn’t all that difficult and it made a huge difference. I actually opted to discontinue using the beard oil for a period of time to better focus on de-puffing my eyes and keeping the party wrinkles from forming. You know, something that happens when you go buck wild in your 20s.
Fast forward to present day and I’m still using all the staples that are tried and true. I’ve mixed in a few exotic products here and there as well but for the most part, I stick to the basics. What you young guys need to understand is that the basics are more than just a bar of soap and a beard oil. Don’t worry, you’re not going to lose your man card if you use these products. Men’s skin needs to be taken care of just like women’s. Trust me, the girls will be very grateful that you do. Especially as time passes on…
