While I don’t always cover Korean skin care products, I do on occasion. It’s because the K-Beauty trend is so rampant and seems to be on fire today. One of the brands out there associated with this Korean skin care craze is Huxley. I’ll let the cat out of the bag and just say that I had no idea who on earth Huxley Skin Care was until I stumbled across is random. The thing here is that once I come across a brand that intrigues me, I can’t just step away.
Not a chance.
I need to dive into the brand, the products, and just about everything else you can think of. I learned a few things during this review and I’m hoping that you’ll do the same. Keep reading to get the whole story.
My Review of the Huxley Skin Care Line
Let me kick things off with some details about the country. South Korea is a beautiful country, with a rich history, and even more beautiful women. Many Korean traditions relating beauty have a deep relation to proper skin care and anti-aging treatments. The constant quest for fixing all skin imperfections makes Korean beauty products some of the most versatile on the market. It comes as no big surprise that many of the new skin trends and products come from the South Korean region.
One, in particular, is the Huxley Skin Care brand. It has been inspired and came up with the name in honor of the great author, Aldous Huxley. I’ll explain more on that below. Keep reading to get the scoop on this Korean brand, the active and/or key ingredients and the public perception/rating of the company in general.
Huxley Company Details
The company was inspired by the work, “Brave New World” written by Aldous Huxley. Just as the author’s vision of a new world, the Huxley brand has turned their founders’ vision for new skincare products, those of which have a purpose of being able to contribute to true the beauty of those using them.
The people at Huxley believe that by taking risks and opportunities to incorporate new ingredients gathered in the harshest of environments, they are able to produce the best products with the best ingredients, thus achieving the best results that money can buy. If you’re a female or if you support female-owned companies like we do then you’ll appreciate the fact that the brand is focused on empowering women any way they can. They also believe in fair wages, better education, and protecting the environment at all costs. Sounds like a pretty stand up company right?
At Huxley, like I said, they believe in the power of using ingredients found in the harshest of environments. I’m talking about the highest mountains, the deepest seas, and the harshest deserts.
It is in the desert, more precisely the Sahara Desert, where they grow their prickly pear cactus. This cactus, which is a succulent plant, is mostly grown in Morocco. It has some very beautiful flowers and produces red fruits. While the locals use the fruit in their cuisine, the seeds produce oil that has found its use in cosmetics and is a favorite of the Huxley brand. In other words, be on the lookout for this ingredient when reviewing the products prior to purchasing.
The oil extracted from the seeds of the Sahara prickly pear cactus is lighter than the commonly used argan oil. However, it has greater linoleic acid content. That basically means that it can have a greater moisturizing effect on the skin. Also, the crazy amount of Vitamin E means that it’s got antioxidants and anti-aging effects. This is the key ingredient that makes all Huxley products potent, popular, and proven to be effective.
After carefully reviewing all the popular Huxley products, I’ve decided to select to share some more details on them.
Toner – Extract it
This toner sports a slightly acidic formula that has +90% naturally derived ingredients and the previously mentioned cactus plant aka the Sahara prickly pear extract. The acidity of the toner is a pH 5.5, the skin’s natural pH balance. At this level, the toner helps the skin retain its moisture while toning and refreshing the skin. This has what I’d describe as a unique fragrance that brings the freshness of a spring garden and a calming effect.
It’s a clear colored liquid, with a slippery texture. When applied to the skin, it will leave you with hydrated, smooth, and darn near perfect skin. It can be used by people with all types of skin. The toner helps those with dull looking skin win-back their moisture and smoothness. People with sensitive skin are able to once again obtain better skin balance and best of all it does not cause irritations. The product is applied with a cotton pad, gently wiping the skin.
Oil – Oil Essence
This Oil Essence product is advertised/promoted as being the perfect balance between oil and essence, again made with prickly pear seed oil which energizes and revitalizes the skin. The other natural ingredients in this product make it a very good choice for young looking, fresh skin. You’ll find that it contains Yerba mate leaf extract, which is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals, acai berry, and the camu camu extract. The camu camu extract helps fight free radicals as well while the quinoa helps improve hydration.
The Huxley Oil Essence is pinkish and if not obvious, it’s a liquid. When applied to the skin, it feels like a clean finish. It easily gets absorbed, leaving no greasy residue or film behind. I know this seems to be a problem that most worry about but rest assured, it’s not even an issue. The oil can be applied as a foundation before makeup.
Cream – Fresh and More
This Fresh and More cream provides the perfect moisture barrier, protecting the skin from drying out, no matter the weather conditions. The special blend helps keep your skin moisturized throughout the entire day without any heavy greasy feeling.
The Fresh and More cream too contains Sahara prickly pear extract, additionally, hyaluronic acid, ceramide, birch sap and Japanese timber bamboo, as well as green purslane extract and sc-glucan. It’s a translucent a gel-like consistency and glides on the skin with ease, leaving a perfect feeling.
The product is intended for people that spend a lot of time outdoors in direct sunlight. It’s for people that need long-lasting hydration assistance, for severely dehydrated skin and those with rough-looking skin producing excess oil all day long.
Although I think the price points are affordable, I can’t seem to do anything other than think about how difficult it was to find the official corporate website. I still to this day can’t find it and that’s a problem for me, sorry. Based on the reviews that I could find on other sites, there are generally positive reviews of Huxley.
Most people have good things to say about this product and the ingredients. Huxley products seem like a pretty tall win and at a good price point. If you’re looking to make a purchase or two, then check out Nordstrom.com. You’ll find everything you need on that website.
