If you are stressed out, then there is a good chance that your skin is paying dearly for it. Stress most certainly can affect your skin and it does without fail. Most of the time you don’t even notice it until you become really stressed out.
However, the changes in your skin take place even under a small amount of stress. Most of the time your body reacts to these levels and not in a good way. Unfortunately, the only way to beat it is to attack it feet first. If you take a close look in the mirror and you feel yourself looking worse than usual, then it’s time to make a change. That holds especially true if your to-do list is huge and you feel overwhelmed with everything that you need to get done.
It’s no secret, stress causes pimples and blemishes. More breakouts can occur and yes that makes matters much worse. There are some things that you can do to help reduce your levels. Rather than talk about the things that you can do to reduce stress, I feel it’s just as important to discuss what it can do to your skin.
Ways Stress Is Ruining Your Skin
There are various things that can happen to your skin when you’re stressed out. I’ve done my best to cover a few of the issues that many folks have to deal with lately. Here’s what you need to know about stress levels and keeping your skin nice looking.
Scarring Can Occur
If you’re worried about your stress levels, you should be because the impact on your skin can be permanent. Some people stress out and have “tics” that they can’t seem to get away from. Things like biting nails and picking away at your skin. The picking can lead to scarring, which will be much more difficult to deal with if it happens.
Lines Appear Quicker
If you’re stressing out about something, then you can bet on seeing more lines on your face and skin in general. Stress can age you through DNA damage. This damage shortens telomeres and can cause cell damage. In other words, this condition causes fine lines to form.
Conditions Get Worse
Are you dealing with any type of preexisting condition like eczema or maybe psoriasis? Have you had any issues over the years in a particular situation which has been stressful? If so, then you’ve likely got a preexisting condition and that condition worsens when stress piles on. This type of thing can make your skin look worse, and can even do a number on your immune system.
Sleep Deprivation Makes It Worse
If you’re not getting enough sleep, then your stress levels will be higher. Sleep plays a huge role in stress levels and clear skin. Insufficient sleep will hurt, so be sure you’re getting enough rest. If you find yourself being incapable of getting an adequate amount of sleep, then please be sure to use some products so that your skin doesn’t get worse. If you don’t, then you best be ready to deal with more zits and blemishes. If you need to incorporate a sleeping mask, then I suggest you do so. Whatever helps you catch some zzz’s quicker.
Those are just some of the more common things that stress can do to your complexion. If you’re totally neglecting your skin, then you are only hurting yourself. That said, if you are stressing out about something, it’s important that you address the underlying cause and fix things before your skin ends up paying for it in the long run.
