Duct Tape For Warts

How many times have you read that people use duct tape for warts in order to remove them? Probably a number of times I’m sure. Warts are absolutely awful to have to deal with. They are commonly caused by a virus known as the human papilloma virus. Today we typically refer to the virus in its short form, HPV.

Although warts are capable of appearing anywhere, they are totally a sight for sore eyes. The good news is that they are virtually painless unless you mess with them.

Applying duct tape on warts is a home remedy that most people actually are familiar with. It’s affordable and painless, but does it work? This one might actually do to trick.

There are actually a few studies that exist today which fully support the use of duct tape to help remove warts from your body. It’s quite possible that the duct tape may even have a better effect on the wart removal process versus cryotherapy (source).

Why Does It Work?

Well, I want it first to be known that the main reason duct tape works is due to the occlusion of the wart itself. I’ll be honest, I’m not completely sure why this works. I don’t think any of us are really sure. There have been multiple theories as to why this works but none of which have been confirmed as of yet.

The first theory that came about was directly related to the tackiness of the tape itself. People thought that the stickiness of the tape could easily remove tissue that was infected as layers were ripped off the skin.

Another theory was that the deprivation of oxygen killed the wart. Basically, suffocating the virus. The last idea was somewhat psychological. That the duct tape psychologically affected the patient causing a boost in their immune system.

The most important thing to do here is to take action. If you do nothing to treat your wart then nothing will happen. You may have warts for many years if you don’t do anything to help clear it up it’s going to continue to exist.

I can confidently say that trying to apply duct tape on a wart may look ridiculous but it’s not at all. In fact, it just might actually work.

How Long Does It Take?

A wart can literally take months, even years to clear up completely. It really depends on the method you’ve chosen to remove the wart. There are plenty of home remedies that can take months to start working. For example, the duct tape or apple cider methods take a long time. Typically a few months to work with strict regular use. Then there is the banana mash approach which also takes months before it starts to disappear. Another method is the potato method that also takes a month minimum to work. What you need to realize is that the only method that leads to quick results is getting your wart froze off professionally.

Talk To A Dermatologist First

Actually, I’m going to do the right thing here and suggest that you first contact a dermatologist before trying to remove your warts by applying duct tape to them. The reason I suggest this is due to the fact that what you think is a wart, in fact, be something else that you’re not unfamiliar with. Proper diagnosis is the first thing that you need to concern yourself with. Once you have been diagnosed by a licensed and insured dermatologist, you can then ask them their professional opinion on whether or not you should remove any warts via the duct tape method.

In the event that the dermatologist advises applying duct tape versus cryotherapy, then you are in luck. You’ve most likely just saved yourself a bunch of money on medical treatment. The good news for you is that using duct tape for warts might be a great choice!
