A group of individuals believes that fish oil has been one of the main reasons why their acne has improved. However, some (women specifically) have said that it made their acne much worse. Now, there is another option that you can look into doing and that’s reducing your omega-6s. You should evaluate your diet and determine whether or not your consuming foods that contain lots of omega 6s. If you’re consuming processed foods, grapeseed oil, walnut oil, and basic salad dressings, then you need cut them out immediately or reduce your intake.
Does Eating Fish Help?
That all depends on your condition. Assuming that you’re in an omega 3 deficit, then consuming fatty fish may be able to help a little bit but there are some safety warnings that you should be aware of when consuming too much fish. Fatty fish often has mercury in it. This can actually be poisonous to your body.
A better idea would be to head to the local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe to pick up a bottle of fish oil capsules. They will be more potent, likely fresh and your risk of toxic levels increasing will be far less.
Choosing The Right Supplement
I’m no expert here, so I suggest you ask a store associate for help. I can give you some pointers but nothing too extensive. Here are some things that you’ll want to do before making any purchasing decisions. First, be sure to read the labels. If you have any questions about the fish oils, then you need to ask. Look for signs that the supplements have been tested at third-party laboratory facilities.
The next thing you’ll want to do is buy fish oils that are packaged in dark bottles. The light can reduce the life of the supplement.
Find something that delivers a minimum of 500mg of omega-3 per serving. That’s the amount that I tend to go for when shopping for fish oils.
Last but not least, keep it pure. You want to find supplements that are pure and not some proprietary mixture that contains a ton of other ingredients. Stick to the basics when it comes to fish oils.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that yes fish oils can cause acne when taken incorrectly. Too much of a good thing can be bad for your skin. and overall health.
