I cannot tell you how many time people have emailed us asking about dairy and skin care. It’s a subject that we ponder and wonder if it even makes a difference. Well, just ask those dealing with acne and eczema if going dairy-free makes a difference or not. Most people know just how bad dairy is for your skin that all they have to do is a simple Google search and a ton of horror stories populate in the search results.
I guess the question of the day is whether or not you need dairy-free skincare products in your life? Guess what, you may need them! There are plenty of reasons why you should think about incorporating dairy-free products into your daily routine instead of those containing dairy.
Reasons To Avoid Dairy In Skin Care Products
The first reason that you’ll want to avoid dairy in your skin care products is that dermal irritation is all too common. Most of the time, it’s the dairy in products that cause dermal issues and irritation.
The second reason you’ll want to keep the dairy out of the equation is that it can cause allergic reactions. Did you know that dairy in skin care products can actually be linked with food allergies? Let me give you an example of what I’m talking about. Some natural products contain things like nut oils, goat’s milk, and some even cow’s milk. Well, those products actually end up causing people to have allergic reactions due to the food contents in the products.
How To Find Dairy-Free Skin Care Products
It’s much harder to find dairy-free products versus those that are cruelty-free or even vegan certified. The reason for that is that labeling a skin care product as dairy-free is not a law, rule, or regulation.
That said, there are some things that you can do to avoid dairy and keep it out of your skin care routine. The first thing you want to do is be on the lookout for dairy ingredients. How do you do this? Pretty simple – read the product labels! If a product is being sold in the United States, then the ingredients must be disclosed. Keep a close eye on each ingredient and if you’re not sure whether or not dairy ingredients are in a product, then you’re better off giving them a call.
Most products have customer service numbers on each of them and those numbers typically connect you with someone that has a complete list of all ingredients each product contains. It’s best to call when in doubt as you might find that some products are just not worth your time or skin issues.
I also don’t want you to believe the natural skin care approach hype. Most of the natural labels do in fact disclose that some form of dairy is used in them. It’s often the “pure” products that contain the natural ingredients that you’ll want to look out for.
I guess the bottom line is that you don’t really need to use any skin care products that contain dairy. With all the options out there, you really don’t have any excuse not to avoid dairy knowing just how bad it can be for your skin.
