Did you know that coffee is great for your skin? Most people drink it but they don’t wash with it nearly as much as they should. If you haven’t tried a coffee scrub yet then you are missing out big time. The use of coffee in various types of homemade scrubs, as well as commercial grade products, have skyrocketed over the last few years. I’m sure you’ve read some of the posts I’ve written on brands like Frank Body.
In fact, it’s one of the most popular DIY treatments that people are doing today, especially when it comes to exfoliating.
There are plenty of benefits of using a coffee scrub and I’m going to do my best to share each and every one of them. Who knows, I may decide to make some brand recommendations for you!
Main Benefits Of Using Coffee Scrubs
There have been some studies on the benefits of this type of scrub. Coffee in moderation is actually good for your health in general, so it only makes sense that the scrub would be good as well. I’ll start with the most basic benefit of them all and that’s the anti-inflammatory benefits that coffee scrubs possess. This has to do with the caffeic acid that can be found in plants. It’s filled with antioxidant powers too which leads me into this.
Coffee generally contains caffeine which is an antioxidant. The fact that it’s an antioxidant means that there are multiple benefits of incorporating it into your routine. For example, antioxidants can successfully fight off free radicals that tend to build up within your skin. This build up causes issues with your skin which can cause wrinkles and spots to form. Using a coffee scrub helps distribute antioxidants and fight off free radicals. As a result, your skin doesn’t age as quickly.
There are lots of people out there that use body scrubs to fight off varicose veins. They also use it to reduce the presence of cellulite. The reason coffee scrubs work so well for this is due to the fact that they have caffeine. The caffeine helps increase circulation and blood flow. Applying a coffee scrub and massaging the scrub into your skin can help improve both conditions within your skin.
I bet you didn’t know that coffee scrubs could actually help tighten your skin. Well caffeine is a vasodilator that helps constrict your blood vessels. The make your blood vessels tight and firm. As a result, your skin looks and feels much firmer than usual.
Most coffee scrubs are made with coarse ingredients. These ingredients work well to help exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating helps rid your body of dirt and skin that tends to build up over time. Coffee scrubs and treatments involving them often help make your skin look and feel younger, cleaner, and healthier.
This benefit sounds a bit strange but many of the people use coffee scrubs for their ability to calm your skin. When you think of coffee, the last thing you’re thinking about is caffeine. However, these types of scrubs can help calm any skin that has become inflamed or red.
Your skin will look and feel brighter if you apply a coffee scrub in the morning. When applied to your face, it can make your skin look brighter in appearance. Not to mention, coffee alone makes us all feel alive and awake!
Coffee Scrub Flavors
Just like coffee that you drink, scrubs come in various flavors. Now, even though you’re not drinking the scrub, it’s still nice to change things up from the original flavor at times. There are a few different types of flavors that are common on the coffee scrub scene. Some of the different flavors that people incorporate into their scrubs are almond, vanilla, coconut, and hazelnut. Some brands do use more exotic nuts such as macadamia.
Where To Buy Them
Honestly, there are hundreds of skin care sites online that you can browse to purchase coffee scrubs. I personally recommend buying from the company website. You can also buy coffee scrubs from Amazon and other large third-party retailers. Feel free to take a trip to the local Whole Foods or Bath and Body Works store. I’m sure you’ll find a wide assortment of coffee scrubs available for purchase there as well.
Making Your Own Coffee Scrubs
While I’m not very big on homemade treatments, I felt it was only right for me to share a recipe that you can try and make yourself. The recipe is quite simple. You’ll need coconut oil, ground coffee, vanilla extract and a blender. Take a half cup of ground coffee, a cup of coconut oil and a teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix it in a bowl. Dump all the ingredients in a blender. Take the scrub and apply it to your body for no longer than ten minutes in the shower or tub. If you’re allergic to coconut oil or vanilla extract, feel free to substitute each of those ingredients. Rinse your body and pat yourself dry. You should feel better instantly.
If you have any allergies to any of the ingredients mentioned above, then I don’t suggest that you make your own coffee scrub. In fact, it would be best to consult your dermatologist before moving forward with your scrub cocktails. For those of you in the clear, happy scrubbing!
